Kota Ezawa at Le Carreau du Temple Videobox Festival
April 27, 2017
Kota Ezawa's single-channel video Take Off will be featured at the Videobox Festival at Le Carreau du Temple in Paris, France. The festival, now in its third year, will take place between April 27 and 29 and will feature over 100 films exploring the themes of nature, cities, and movement.
Take Off will be screened on April 28 from 12:30-2:30 PM. Each day of the festival is organized by theme, with April 28 representing the theme of cities. The films presented on this day will share a common representation of the city from a "classical" perspective, dealing with architectural organization, town planning, buildings and inhabitants. The videos will also represent new cities that are still under construction, abandoned cities, ghost towns, ecologically damaged cities, dream cities, and utopias and dystopias, both real and programmatic.
Take Off is a watercolor-based, rotoscope-style animation based on footage taken from a C-SPAN news broadcast. The film depicts George W. Bush leaving the White House in a Marine One helicopter and fading into the Washington D.C. skyline with views of the city below.
Le Carreau du Temple is a 6500-square-meter former clothing market located in the 3rd arrondissement of Paris. It is host to numerous multidisciplinary events, including art exhibitions and residencies, sports events, fashion shows and music performances. The Videobox Festival is curated by Odile Burluraux and Corentin Hamel and is free and open to the public.
